Children's Floral Art Competitions
The flower arranging competitions at the 2012 Northwest Garden Show will be a sight to behold. The theme of both participants will be 'Down the Garden Path'. Entrants are asked to use all their creativity, imagination and gardening skills to deliver engaging floral displays that cover the overall theme of the competition.
The children's floral competition is split into two categories;
1. Garden in a Jam Jar (Age 8 & Under)
Arrangement designed in a jam jar, using flower and foliage from the garden.
2. Garden in a Jam Jar (Age 9 - 12)

Young Hands Together Primary Schools Arts & Crafts Competition
This competition has been designed as an educational initiative to provide children and young people with useful information and help them participate in exploring, preserving and improving their natural surroundings. The competition encourages an awareness of environmental issues through positive environmental action in primary schools with emphasis on the 3-R's: Reuse, Reduce and Recycle.
The theme for the competition is 'Embracing Mother Nature'. The competition is open to all primary schools and entries are limited to one per school with no individual entries permitted. All entries will be on public display in the 'Flower Pavillion' for the duration of the 2-day Show.

Contest Rules
Participants:
All primary schools, limited to one entry per school - no individual entries.
Rules:
1. Artwork must be the original work of the entrants
2. Artwork should reflect the theme 'embracing mother nature' and can include the use of any materials
3. Artwork must be in a portrait format only, dimensions are 120cm high x 60cm wide and the use of cardboard or plywood is recommended.
4. Any type of materials may be used (e.g. paint, collage, pastel, clay, paper, mixed media.) The use of preserved plant material is encouraged.
5. Use your imagination, and most of all have fun!
Team Challenge
The team challenge is an opportunity for secondary schools to form a team and work together to create a garden based on their interpretation of the theme 'Rock'.
Schools: Team Challenge
Open to all secondary school pupils with assistance from one adult supervisor.
The exhibit must not exceed 3m x2m
Pallet Garden Challenge
These displays will highlight how resourceful and practical gardening can be and demonstrate that gardening is possible, no matter how limited your outdoor space is. The challenge requires the creation of an attractive pallet garden based on their interpretation of the theme 'Northwest Garden Show'.
Schools: Pallet Challenge
Open to all national school pupils with assistance from one adult supervisor.
The exhibit must not exceed 1m width x 1m depth x max 2m height (measured from the ground).

A pallet will be provided to competitors in advance of show.

Entrants may not dig into the ground.
Team Challenge & Pallet Garden Challenge Rules

Each exhibit which must bear a title, be practical, of strong design. It must comprise of predominantly living plant material with hard/soft landscaping components such as rockery stones, ornaments or other props being kept to a minimum.

Plant material may overhang the collar within a reasonable distance.

The exhibit must be designed to be viewed from a distinguishable front.

The use of a backdrop is permitted within stated dimensions.

The exhibit must comprise of predominantly living plant material with hard/soft landscaping components such as rockery stones, ornaments or other props being kept to a minimum.

Artificial plant material is not permitted.

Competitors must provide a brief overview of the exhibit including the names of the plants used, and/or useful information.

Competitors must be available to assemble and break down their exhibit as guided by the event organisers.

Competitors will also be responsible for transporting their exhibit material to and from the event site.
